Kurukshetra University, established in 1957, has a well-developed multi-faculty Campus spread over 473 acres of land on the south bank of Brahmsarovar.
Ever since laying of foundation stone by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the First President of India, the University has taken quantum leaps and has emerged as an advanced centre of Study & Research for quality education in conformity with the international standards. The University has centrally air- conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 2500 and 70mm projector, Senate Hall, Conference Hall, well-equipped Sports Complex (Play fields, Gymnasium, Stadium, Swimming Pool, Tennis Courts, Volleyball, Basketball Courts, etc.), Teachers' Club, Club for Administrative staff, 25 Hostels, (11 for Boys & 13 for Girls and 1 for Foreign male students), School, Health Centre, Business Complex, about 700 quarters for all categories of staff. Kurukshetra University has a rich Jawaharlal Nehru Library with more than 3.80 lac books, 181 journals (Foreign & Indian) and 15,328 rare manuscripts, Internet Section of 200 nodes, Computer Centre, Museum, Instrumentation (USIC) workshop, NSS Centre, Students' Guest House, Faculty House, etc. In addition to Directorate of Distance Education, University College and University College of Education, the University has 45 Teaching Departments on the campus and 369 affiliated colleges situated in the Districts of Ambala, Panipat, Kaithal, Yamuna Nagar, Hisar, Jind, Karnal, Kurukshetra and Panchkula.

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK

The Department of Social Work was established in July, 1981 and is the pioneer Department in Haryana to meet the pressing need for scientific education and training in Professional Social Work Education.
The vision of the department is to Develop manpower for professional social work practice to strive for creation of a just and equal society which ensures freedom from all forms of oppression and exploitation. The mission of the department to develop human resource for competent and effective professional social work practice through teaching and research with diverse range of problems and issues related to individuals, groups and communities by using frame work of social justice and human rights to promote sustainable and participatory welfare and development.


DEPARTMENT OF LAW

The Law Department was established in 1969 as the first Law Department in the State of Haryana to impart legal education and to conduct original and fundamental research in the contemporary areas of law and allied subjects. Since its inception, very renowned, eminent and outstanding scholars have headed the Department.
The Department offers courses, namely LL.B., LL.M. and Ph.D. A sustainable number of students of the department have been qualified the JRF, NET, and SLET tests and also have been selected and elevated to teaching, higher judicial and administrative services. Some of the publications produced by the members of the teaching faculty have won national as well as international appreciation. Besides this the Department has organized a number of Seminars on important themes particularly on contemporary areas of law. Visiting fellows are invited from different Universities for special & guest lectures from time to time. The prime objective of the department is to achieve academic excellence in research and to inculcate & promote the legal education. The department has achieved the place as a centre of national & international legal research and studies, in which the students, lawyers, judges, government officials and academicians have been participating.
As a part of practical training and to provide due exposure to students and teachers, Eminent Jurists, Senior Advocates and Eminent Professors from other Universities are invited to deliver extension lectures, conduct seminars and discussions. These programmes not only make law teaching more meaningful but practical aspects of law practices and procedures are also taken care of as an inbuilt component of legal training.


INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES

In the year 2003, University took a strategic decision of starting an Integrated 5-Year MBA Programme under the umbrella of Department of Management in order to cope up with the emerging challenges of management education. Since then, the Department has remained very successful in meeting the corporate requirements of trained work force both at middle and top-level managerial positions. On receiving an overwhelming response from all corners for this programme, University decided to go for a separate Institute. Accordingly, in year 2005 the Institute of Management Studies (IMS) was established to run MBA-5 Year Integrated Practice Oriented Programme. The students of the Institute get BBA and MBA degrees after successful completion of first three years and five years respectively. The admissions to the programme are made as per the composite merit score comprising All India Entrance Test, GD and personal Interview. The students admitted in this programme come from various academic, social and geographical backgrounds. The Institute offers specializations in accordance with the requirements of the industry and interest of the students. The major fields of specialization include Finance, Marketing and HRM. The Institute has started a new course, i.e., BBA (H) in 2021 considering the demand of the course nationally and internationally. Unlike a two-year MBA Programme, the Institute offers the students with specialization in 4th and 5th year. Moreover, the Institute utilizes the services of visiting faculty from Industry and Academia. The Institute has its own library equipped with above 6072 books, 54 Computers, adequate number of smart class rooms/OHPs etc. Several reputed companies visit the Institute for Summer/Final placements.
In the session 2020-21 the institute started BBA(H) with an intake of 50 students constituting 35 Indian students and 15 international students. The BBA(H) Program was started with the aim of imparting management education with wide socio-economic and international spectrum.
NEP-2020 was implemented for the academic session 2022-23 in the MBA 5 yr. Integrated program and BBA(H) program.


DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM & HOTAL MANAGEMENT

The Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (A+ Grade NAAC accredited) was established in 1989 to start the First Master’s degree in Tourism in India under the faculty of commerce and management. Within a short period, it became a trendsetter in Tourism and Hotel management education by introducing Master of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (MHM&CT) and Bachelor of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (BHM&CT) courses in 2002 and 2009 respectively. The department is also running research program (s) such as Ph.D. in Tourism & Hotel Management. In a similar vein to remain a pioneer and trendsetter in tourism and hospitality management education, The DTHM proposed to start Post Graduate Diploma in Hospitality and Event Management w.e.f. 2022 session. The experienced and multi-disciplinary faculty of the department is determined to make it a Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Management Education at par with international standards.
The structure & delivery of the curriculum at The Department of Tourism and Hotel Management are contemporary & based on our continuous interaction with renowned educationists & industry professionals besides Alunani and students’ feedback under National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
At DTHM we believe in developing holistic managers and leaders for tomorrow’s hospitality corporate culture by following a judicious blend of theory & practice along with ability and skill enhancement courses, by applying highly innovative pedagogical tools and techniques tailored by the Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra to bequeath its students. Institute of Sanskrit and Indological Studies is a research Institute furnished with an exclusive Reference library and other necessary infrastructure needed for higher research in all disciplines of Indology i.e. comparative study of Ancient Indian Literature, Languages, Scripts, Indian Philosophy and Religion, Ancient Indian Culture, Civilization and History including Jainism and Buddhism.
Initially this Institute was established with the vision and leadership of late Prof. Dharmendra Nath Shastri and late Prof. Buddha Prakash in 1963. On the occasion of Silver Jubilee Celebrations of KUK in 1981, with the sincere efforts of the then Director late Prof. Gopikamohan Bhattacharya, the institute was strengthened by the UGC by accepting the enhancement proposal and in 1985 provided with full faculty along with helping staff, grants for spacious and beautiful building and books for library.
At the very outset it started publication of Prācī-Jyoti, a Digest of Indological Studies in 1963. Forty six volumes of this Digest have been published so far. It started working on another long term project of publication of Mahabharata Word Concordance. A brief account of both of these projects is as below:
(A) Preparation and Publication of Long Term Collaborative Research Project (Mahābhāratapadānukramakośa) : Mahābhārata Word Concordance is to be completed in fifteen volumes and Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India (through Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthana, New Delhi) had sanctioned a grant of ₹ 30 Lac for its publication . The concept of this project is to prepare a highly beneficial Research tool which is to supply a well alphabetized and grammatically analyzed record of each and every word unit occurring in the text of different Parvas of Mahābhārata.
The Word Concordance of Mahābhārata will supply the definite clue to find the references related to Ancient History, Geography, Law, Administration, Linguistics, Philosophy and Religion, Social and Economic Institutions, Responsiveness to Environmental balance etc. All the declensions are systematically arranged under their respective nominal head-words (prātipadikas) and verbal roots (dhātus) according to Pāninian system. Thirteen volumes of this project have already been published. Completed basic data of remaining two volumes is quickly being shaped for final printing.
(B) Publication of Prācī Jyoti – Digest of Indological Studies
Prācī-Jyoti has been a unique publication of this Institute since 1963. Its XLV-XLVI volume was released in 2020. Next volume is in progress.
Prācī-Jyoti, being the Digest of Indological Studies is a reliable and inevitable source available to old and new scholars alike for obtaining updated research information. It supplies the abridgement divided in fifteen Sections of the research papers published world over in different journals of Indological Studies. It also includes topics of Research degrees awarded or being pursued along with projects (short/long terms) completed or being pursued at different Universities/Research Institutions world over. Prācī-Jyoti also publishes critical reviews of the latest arrivals. Thus Prācī-Jyoti is a reliable source of information and helps to get updated and eliminate duplicity in research.

The Department Of Home Science Was Established In 1998 Under The Able Leadership Of Prof. N. K. Mata, The Founder Head. The Department Offers A Rich Academic And Research Environment To The Youthful Minds, With An Aim In Making Professionally Productive And Worthy Home Scientists In Thrust Areas. Department Of Home Science Is Running Two Master’s Programme Namely M.Sc. Home Science (Food, Nutrition And Dietetics) Since 1998 And M.Sc. Home Science (Human Development) Since 2008. The Department Of Home Science Focuses On Impeccable Research Facilities By Offering The Doctorate Of Philosophy Degree In Foods And Nutrition (Ph.D. In Foods And Nutrition) Since 2004. Our Research Program Offers An Elaborate Curriculum That Provides Research Scholars With An Opportunity To Get Acquainted With Research Methodologies In Different Thrust Areas Of Foods And Nutrition. The Faculty Members Of Department Are Dedicatedly Working In The Research Areas Of Food Analysis, Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition/ Dietetic Counselling, Value Added Product Development Etc. In Addition, Our Faculty Also Serves As Members Of Editorial Board, Reviewers And Actively Involved In Community Outreach Initiatives. More Than 150 Students Qualified NET/ JRF. INSTITUTE OF INDOLOGICAL STUDIES

In 1976 UGC established University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra as a Central Instrumentation Facility. It was aimed to up keep the scientific equipment in the university science departments to give an impetuous to research and development (R&D) activities of the university. This endeavor was supported by providing the best human resource for the purpose. With the support of state of art facilities and human resources in the field of instrumentation it played a pivotal role in R&D activities of the university.
